Nov. 1, 2, 3   9:30 to 4:30
Pacific Textile Arts classroom
450 Alger St.  Fort Bragg, Ca.
RodrigoJPGcpRodrigo Sosa Bautista is a Zapotec weaver from the famed rug and tapestry village of Teotitlan del Valle in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.  He has been weaving since he was 8 years old in the centuries old tradition of his community– spinning, dyeing and weaving “tapetes” (rugs) and “zarapes” (blankets).
The class will follow the traditional composition of Zapotec “tapetes” based on alternating decorative bands of diverse colors and patterns.  Patterns will be developed using different elements such as “grecas” (traditional geometric figures) and “ojitos” (little eyes).  During the workshop Rodrigo will demonstrate in detail the weaving of these designs.  Each participant will be able to create his/her own miniature rug while exploring these traditional Zapotec techniques.
